Provenance studies of the Forest Research Institute on the European larch in 1948–2000
The results are presented of the studies on the European larch carried out in the Department of Genetics and Forest Tree Physiology of the Forest Research Institute since 1948. The main aim of these studies was to know the population and families variability of the quantity, quality and vitality features, as well as their susceptibility to the injuries caused by abiotic and biotic factors. Additionally the influence of the environmental factors on the mention above features and properties was assessed and the breeding value and plasticity of tested populations and families was evaluated accordingly. Studies were performed on four provenance and three family plots established between 1949 and 1967. Based on obtained results there were selected populations of highest increment (Skarżysko, Rawa Mazowiecka, Grójec and Marcule), populations of best quality (Dąbrówki, Kowary, Prószków, Bliżyn and Marcule) and the populations most susceptible to the Lachnellula willkommii cancer (Hołubla, Pelpin, Konstancjewo Płonne, Henryków and Dukla).
