The stock-taking of old trees and threatened tree species in the Białowieża Primeval Forest
Artificial regeneration was not used in the Białowieża Primeval Forest until 1888, therefore the all old trees (of over 150 years old) are today genetic representatives of „wild” forms. In the period 1986–2006, a total of 2455 old and endangered trees representing 10 species were inventoried and described. A majority of these trees was conferred the status of nature monument.
