Cryopreservation of coniferous trees tissue cultures – the additional method of forest trees (ex situ) gene resources conservation
Cryopreservation of somatic embryos and tissue offers long-term storage of forest trees genetic resources. This additional method is useful for forest trees (ex situ) gene resources conservation. It offers genetic stability of stored germplast and high level of regeneration. The most appropriate for this purpose are: embryogenic callus and somatic embryos. The applied procedure make possible to obtain high survival of spruce, larch and silver fir embryogenic callus (66.7–100%) and germination of somatic embryos (20–73.3%) after thawing from liquid nitrogen.
