Admixtures of deciduous trees and the threats from insect pests in montain forests
The paper presents the role of deciduous admixtures in the threats caused by the insect pests in montane, mainly Norway spruce, stands. The indirect impact of these tree species, related to the stimulation of natural resistance in diversified stands by the improvement of breeding conditions for parasitoids and predators, is discussed. The direct effect of deciduous trees and bushes, resulting from the emission of repellent semiochemicals (mainly GLV – green leaf volatiles) is also reviewed.
