Development estimation of chosen silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) provenances in forest cultures in the West Sudety Mts.
Biometric measurements were carried out in experimental forest cultures in mountain mixed deciduous forest site type (700 m a.s.l.) and mountain conifer site type (960 m a.s.l.). The study was conducted in the Sudety Mts. (western part) in 19932003. There were 6 provenances of silver fir in the forest cultures (4 provenances from the Carpathian Mts. and 2 provenances from the Sudety Mts.). The additional observation of silver fir development in managed forest cultures confirmed the possibility of increasing the share of silver fir in the Sudety Mts. The highest height increment and the best survival of the investigated provenances were found for Smreczyna, Powroźnik and Wojtówka origins. In consideration of too short observation time it was impossible to estimate neither silviculture value nor usefulness of different provenances for the species restoration in the Sudety Mts.
