Forest natural regeneration in stands damaged by wind in north-eastern Poland
In 2002 a windstorm damaged over 33,000 ha of forest in the north-eastern part of Poland. The investigation was carried out in Piska forest in August 2005. The data on natural regeneration was collected from 65 sample plots established in reserve „Szast”. The aim of the study was to determine the growth dynamics of natural regeneration in protected area „Szast” and to compare the growth and development of natural and artificial regeneration of Scots pine. It was found that four tree species have regenerated in reserve „Szast” althought Scots pine was in majority. The best growth of Scots pine regeneration was observed in plantation. Vitality of pine natural regeneration was high in all investigated stands.
