Comparison of methods of seed extraction by drying cones and mechanical one of European larch seeds Larix decidua Mill.
The seed yield of cones and viability of seeds collected with the use of 2 methods from 14 sample cones of larch taken from the Sudety Mountains in 1999/2000 were compared. The experiment proved that the mechanical method of seed extraction (cone crushing and cone scale abrasion) is more efficient from the economic point of view. In contrast, seeds extracted by drying cones showed higher germinative energy and germinability, lower coefficient of electrolyte leakage end higher resistance to the test of accelerated ageing.
