Development of resistance to insecticides in insects
The past 50 years have shown that insects’ resistance to insecticides has become a very serious practical problem that threatens the protection of plants against many species of pest insects. The cross and multiple resistance among insect pests has lowered the effectiveness of some insecticides and the choice of novel substances is reduced because of the difficulty in finding chemical groups with novel mechanisms of action. The knowledge of the origin of resistance and factors influencing its development is essential to control insect pests with insecticides in a rational way that would allow to delay resistance. The aim of this paper is to describe the problem.
