Increment dynamics of scots pine in selected stands located in the Karpaty forest region and its silvicultural consequences
Scots pine on the fertile sites of the Karpaty forest region (Southern Poland), in spite of its large share in the forest area, cannot form a persistent and stable stands. However, the land colonizing ability of this species might be utilized in the forest management. Red beech and silver fir regeneration can find good conditions for growth under the pine canopy. This regeneration might develop into high quality mixed pine, beech and fir stands or pure stands of beech and fir. The development of fir stands of uneven age and diverse vertical structure it is also possible.
