Incremental symptoms in revitalization of silver fir in the forests of Carpathian and Sudeten mts.and their silvicultural consequences
The investigation results of the dynamic of radial ring increment at the DBH were presented. It was found that increment is much higher now than it was during the worst decade – the 70s, what seems to be an indication of getting back to the normal condition of fir stands’ growth. In the mixed and fully stocked stands, where single firs occur among Norway spruce and/or European beech trees, fir growth is slower than its competitors and as a result its number is decreasing. Thus, to keep the desired share of fir in such stands silvicultural measures need to be applied more effectively.
