Effect of Brachyderes incanus L. outbreak on the development of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) plantations on post-fire areas
The effect of Brachyderes incanus outbreak (which had place in 1999–2001) on the development of Scots pine plantation, growing on areas burnt in 1992 during the forest fire, in forest districts of Grodziec, Potrzebowice and Cierpiszewo was studied. The number of B. incanus beetles at the level of 50–80/tree at one term of observation, counted at the peak of outbreak, damaged more than 95% of one-year-old needles on the shoots of the highest verticils. However, the infested pine trees did not die because the damages did not exceed 35% of needles lenght. Feeding of the above number of beetles caused the decreasing of annual increament in height of pine trees at the level of 30–70%.
