Abstrakt

The paper presents the frame of sound emission organ. Different methods of sound generation (by vibration of membranes, by friction of differentiated parts – stridulation, by percussion on the substratum, by expulsion of a fluids, by vibration of appendages) in insects – including immature stages – were also described. Physical and biological parameters of these sounds and factors which condition these sounds were characterised. The relationship between the presence of stridulatory organ and insect systematic, and the hypotheses of generation of sound emission were presented. The importance of sound emission especially in the best singers (Gryllidae, Tettigonidae, Acrididae) was described. Different kinds of songs emitted by insects such as calling song, congregational song, premating songs, rival’s songs, disturbance song and protest song were characterised. Sound emissions by insects is a common phenomenon. There is a lot of different framed and different localised on insect body organs used for sound emission. Sound emission helps insects to frighten away rivals of their own species in female competition, to group individuals (in danger, near the food etc.) and to call individuals of different sex during courtship.
