The effect of afforestation on population dynamics of Trypocopris vernalis (L.) (Coleoptera: Geotrupidae)

Abstrakt
The objective of this study was to learn to what degree the afforestations affected the seasonal dynamics and changes in population abundance of Trypocopris vernalis (L.). The beetles were caught in baited traps in the Człuchowska Primeval Forest in 1998–1999. A total of 22676 individuals of T. vernalis were caught. The obtained results have shown that the activity peak of this beetle falls on June, and the optimal habitat conditions are on clearcuts and forest cultures. T. vernalis colonised coniferous stands growing on former agricultural lands more frequently than the same stands growing on forest lands.
