Vitality and changes in seeds proteins and hormones (IAA, ABA) level of selected Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) provenances stored at forest gene bank (FGB) – Kostrzyca in 1996–1999
Seeds of 6 Scots pine provenances were analyzed every year during storage at Forest Gene Bank-Kostrzyca, in order to determine their physiological properties. Seed vitality, hormones (free and bound, IAA and ABA) and proteins level were determined after 14 days of germination. Obtained results showed only slight decline in vitality of stored seeds. On the other hand, decrease in total protein and increase in bound ABA fraction level were observed. Presented results indicate progress in physiological changes related to ageing of stored Scots pine seeds. It is suggested that for effective evaluation of long-term stored pine seeds analyses of proteins and hormones level would be necessary.
